EMIQ® – Enzymatically Modified Isoquercitrin

EMIQ® is the world’s first commercialized, water‐soluble, flavonol glycoside derived from rutin. EMIQ® is alpha-glycoside isoquercitrin with 1-10 additional linear glucose moieties.

Rutin occurs widely in nature, in citrus and buckwheat for example, and has been known to have antioxidant properties and a vitamin P-like effect in improving capillary fragility. However, in nature, rutin has a very low water solubility, which has always limited the range of its bioavailability.

EMIQ® has unique glucose moieties and, when consumed, results in significantly greater bioavailability than other available forms. In a recent study, EMIQ® was shown to produce a 17‐fold increase in plasma concentration of quercetin metabolites after consumption when compared to a standard quercetin product.

EMIQ® is safe for human use

EMIQ® has been found to be safe in many toxicity studies and has been self-affirmed as Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) by FDA (GRAS Notice No.GRN000220). Study results for oral dosage and the safety of quercetin have shown:
• No toxicity was found after administration of 2,000 mg/kg of EMIQ®.
• Negative mutagenicity test

Stably dispersed in water

Because of its unique technology, EMIQ® is stably dissolved in water and can easily be used in beverages.

Stable when exposed to light

EMIQ® is stable when exposed to light irradiation and compatible with transparent containers, such as PET bottles.

Stable when exposed to heat

EMIQ® is stable when exposed to heat and can be used under pasteurization conditions for beverages and food.
